Youth Initiative for Human Rights - Serbia

YLPCE Presented in Preševo and Bujanovac

“This is an opportunity for you to meet many friends from other countries and to learn about public appearance, leadership, and the resolution of local problems. I really enjoyed our visit to Washington, Burlington, Chicago, and other cities”, Katarina Stojiljković, a high-school student from Bujanovac, stated at the promotion of the Youth Leadership Program With Central Europe (YLPCE) held on December 1st in the “Vuk Karadžić” Cultural Center in Bujanovac.

The Youth Initiative for Human Rights (Initiative) issued a public call for application for the program designed for ten high school students from Šabac, Preševo, Loznica, Valjevo, and Bujanovac.

Katarina and her coeval friend Majlinda Hyseni from Preševo spent four weeks in the US last summer as part of the program, together with other young participants from Serbia, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia.
“I can advise my peers, who wish to participate in the program, to be brave and think about the solution of problems that young people in Preševo have to deal with, since this would be their task at the end of the project. This is one of the most interesting programs I have ever participated in”, Majlinda stated at the promotion of the program held on November 30th in the “Skenderbeg” High School in Preševo.

“Use this opportunity to learn a great deal from each other next summer and to meet young people from other countries, since this is one of the most important components of this program. Take time to thoroughly think about the problems in your city and suggest methods for their solution in your application”, Jasmina Lazović from the Initiative underlined.

Participants are expected to have aspiration to change the environment they live in and to inspire other people to do so, to be interested in international policy, to wish to meet and exchange knowledge and experiences with young people from other cultures. The deadline for application is January 13th, 2012.
